Emanuel is a terrifically strong writer, one America's best young mainstream poets, and this two-in-one volume holds up to -- and deserves -- close and repeated readings. The people who have given this book sophmoric, thoughtless one-star reviews are probably as pretentious and lacking in subtley as their comments.

The Sea Breeze Hotel has too much wind and too few customers. This situation changes with the creation of kites--butterfly kites, box kites, dragon kites. With the kites flying proudly in the sky, visitors flock to the Sea Breeze Hotel. This is a delightfully rhythmic and imaginative book with illustrations to match.

Zagats has become useless lately since it is based on people entering their ratings on the Internet.
If I'm to beleive the Zagats reviews, then Olive Garden is the best Italian with 'true Italian cusine' and Panera is the best place to go for salads.
I'm very happy that Michelin has decided to rate Chicago restaurants.
Finally a consistant professional review.
I bought one and two more as christmas presents for my friends.

For the first time ever, Chicago has joined the MICHELIN Guide collection, offering objective reviews of 342 restaurants and 39 hotels to travelers and locals alike. The guide was two years in the making--two years of extensive research into Chicago restaurants and hotels by Michelin's team of famously anonymous inspectors, resulting in consistent, reliable recommendations. The guide covers various price and comfort categories and 42 different types of cuisine.Foodies, take note.23 Chicago area restaurants earned one or more stars, awarded strictly for culinary excellence.18 have one star; three reached two stars; and two restaurants attained the three-star level--the highest honor the MICHELIN Guide can bestow.Only 93 restaurants around the world hold three stars today. But the guide is not just about the stars, since starred restaurants represent only 10% of the guide's content.Every restaurant and hotel included in the guide is a recommendation.Budget-conscious diners will find plenty of choices in the guide.46 restaurants were highlighted as Inspector Favorites for Good Value, known as Bib Gourmand restaurants, serving two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for less than $40 (tax and tip not included).Another 109 Chicago restaurants are in the Under $25 category. Those who like to get the day off to a good start will really appreciate the MICHELIN Guide Chicago where inspectors have highlighted their favorite restaurants with standout breakfast preparations.Chicago is the only city where Michelin inspectors have considered breakfast as a meal.Other user-friendly indexes include restaurant listings for types of cuisine, brunch and late dining, as well as starred, Bib Gourmand and Under $25 restaurants.Reviews are grouped by neighborhood for easy, spur-of-the-moment decision-making.For travelers to orient themselves, or for locals to (re)discover their own area, introductions to each neighborhood describe local specialty spots, food-related sights and food & wine events.Time-tested Michelin symbols are used for quick reference, while city and neighborhood maps pinpoint location. MICHELIN Guide Chicago 2011 offers its readers the best places to eat and stay in Chicago.

At the Hotel Larry Review

At the Hotel Larry
Average Reviews:

The narrator of this story is a girl who lives in a hotel with her father and mother. Larry, a polar bear, once saved her father's life, and as a reward, Larry wanted to live in a hotel with a swimming pool. So her father bought an old hotel, and Larry is the lifeguard. Every now and again, the girl disguises Larry in a very large coat, hat, and sunglasses, and they go to the Pancake Palace to eat blueberry pancakes. One day they go to the zoo, and I won't spoil the story by telling any more! The humor is wacky and sophisticated but will appeal to all ages. The style is simple and the book is fun to read because Larry is so clever and droll. I have read this book aloud countless of times to my 3-year-old. Larry has really captured the imagination of my son. Highly recommended for its humor and great illustrations.

Sierra Hotel: Flying Air Force Fighters in the Decade After Vietnam Review

Sierra Hotel: Flying Air Force Fighters in the Decade After Vietnam
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Anderegg hits the bull's eye with his latest must-read book for anyone who shares his interest in aviation, the Air Force, fighter pilots, precision guided munitions, aerial combat, the Vietnam War, or the Gulf War. Far from being dry history, this chronicle was written by an insider who participated in the transformation of America's fighter force. He makes the fighter culture come alive with vivid descriptions of both the plays and the players.
Both a graduate of and a returning instructor to the Weapons School, Anderegg has transitioned from accomplished fighter pilot to laudable historian. As a narrative researcher and writer, he is second to none. This book rivals his first, Ash Warriors, for first place among the best of military history. He even includes the true story of Jeremiah Weed!
The best of its kind I've ever read! I swear on the pinky switch.

This cookbook is a delight, mixing fresh, seasonal ingredients in surprising but always appetizing ways -- and best of all, using recipes that are not arcane or terribly time-consuming (but do expect to spend a fair amount of time chopping). My personal favorites are two unusual summer dishes, one a fruit gazpacho and the other a hot blueberry soup with coconut milk and lime. Yum! I *will* seek out the restaurant when next I'm in the Pacific Northwest.

This book offers a serious, well-informed, insider view of the hotels currently at the avant-garde of interior designing. Many of the properties illustrated represent "la creme de la creme" of the hotel industry in the past decade; and least to say are well worth staying at.
I would particularly recommend this fascinating book to the experienced traveler who takes pride in indulging him or herself in an ambience of exclusiveness and inspiration. A must have!

Dream Sleeps: Castles and Palace Hotels of Europe Review

Dream Sleeps: Castles and Palace Hotels of Europe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
An intriguing book. I have already dreamt up enough vacations to last the rest of my life, and I've only had this book two days. The book has short, two or three page descriptions of 132 hotels. Most of them are based on old castles or palaces, though there are a couple based on convents, and at least one is an old royal hospital. They are all appropriate for the book. There is usually an exterior photo and an interior photo, and good information on the history of the place, both as a castle (or whatever) and how it came to be a hotel. There is fairly detailed information on accommodations, including comments on virtues and vices of specific rooms in some of the hotels (at least one specific room is listed as allegedly haunted). I could wish for a bit more detail in some cases, but that is probably unrealistic.
I hadn't planned to go to Europe in 2001, but now may have to change my plans....

Hello Italy: Best Budget Hotels in Italy : 16 Italian Cities Review

Hello Italy: Best Budget Hotels in Italy : 16 Italian Cities
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Margo loves to travel and write about her experiences. In this guide she gives useful Italian Phrases for Hotel Reservations, tells you where to find bookstores and explores centrally located hotels in 16 Italian cities. Travelers all over the world trust the Hello guides and the first part of this book is filled with wonderful letters from people who also read books by Rick Steves and Fodor. They love how Margo personalizes the experience by giving tips on where to shop for groceries, where to find Internet cafes and even where to do your laundry. She explains why less is more when thinking about luggage and I was smiling as I read about her adventures with suitcases on cobbled streets and running through the rain.
If you want to take a trip without relying on travel agents or want to make your trip more affordable, then Margo's books have a lot to offer. Even travel agents rely on her books! This is her tenth book in the series and she wrote her book about Italy while traveling with her husband. So romantic!
You can select hotels bases on the number of people or fun things like "fabulous sea view." The chapter on Florence is very entertaining. You can choose from walking tours to day trips and the list of bookstores also has the times they are open. There are amusing details about restaurants and Margo explains where to find the best sandwiches, although the owner is a little brusque. The list of "unusual things to pack" make your trip so much more comfortable and enjoyable.
The unique thing about these books is that Margo and her husband pay for all their expenses, so you get the real and honest approach and none of the hotels or restaurants have paid to be included in this book. The pictures throughout the book make this a charming guide with a wonderful personal approach and a sense of adventure.

Ghostly Encounters by Frances Kermeen is a must read for those interested in the possibility that death is only the begining and that just because you can not see them, does not mean they are not there. The Author takes the reader into her investigations as she explores Americas notorious Haunted Inns and Hotels for herself and the reader can be assured, of her ability to bring us into her investigations as if we were there ourselves but fortunately were not! She seeks out the truth and is not afraid to express her honesty, doubts, and most often fears with the readers in hopes of discovering the truth no matter what. Not since Hans Holzer has anyone made me doubt, that the cold chill i feel at night just might be someone reaching out from beyond the grave. I highly recommend this book and can not wait to read her next one.
