I ordered a copy of Rogers Rock only because it's about a place where I spent many happy summers as a child, but the moment I began to read it, I realized it's a gem. It's not only a delightful history of an Adirondack summer hotel of the old days, it's a vivid story. It reminds me of that wonerful movie, "Grand Hotel". The guests, the musicians who play in the string trio, the bell boys from Hampton University, even the grounds keepers - all interact in an intriguing way. Particular individuals and groups are described so well I feel I know them. The author is clearly fond of the hotel, but I like that he doesn't shy away from looking at some of the ugly aspects of the time such as the anti-Semitism practiced at some resorts. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story about a time when summers were more relaxed but also maybe more exciting.
