In the first book, the reader follows Andre Schwarz as he begins his career in the hotel management industry. Initially, he starts off a student eager to learn. Over time, he hones his skills and his career begins to take off. He works in some of the best hotels and restaurants in Europe and even spends time on a cruise ship. Each place has its own stories and share of interesting characters.
At the end of the first book, Andre is offered a position in China. Looking forward to a new challenge, Andre accepts. Of course, he has no idea of the cultural or political challenges that will make doing his job difficult. This second book looks exclusively at Andre's experiences in China and Hong Kong just before and after the Beijing Olympics.
I very much enjoyed the first book in this series but I actually think I enjoyed the second book even more. It was fascinating to see how China much changed during that fairly short time period. Moreover, some of the incidents that Andre relates are almost too funny or shocking to believe possible. Read the book, you'll see what I mean.
