This is the book that i used when i was at college in my home city in england.Patisserie is a professional book for students, Bakers,Chefs,Confectioners and Teachers.Patisserie is a craft/trade (some say it's an art) so housewives may find it a little confusing, for example, Bread making is a technology and carn't be learnt from a book. If you have a basic understanding in Fermented goods, pastry, confectionary hot and cold sweets and cake decorating then you will love this book. The book covers everything i needed to complete my studies of Bakery, cake decorating and patisserie and i still use it in my work.Hanneman himself was a lecturer in charge of the bakery school at the Cambridge College of Arts and Technology as well as head of food at lancaster and Morecambe college and also a former chief examiner for the 711-01 pastry cooks and patissiers exam.

Every Francophile should own this book. I love it. From this book one can truly make their home into a french villa by carefully taking note of the way in which the french achieve the look. In my opinion the first step is to come up with the wonderful grey tones and work from their, walls first. The photography is great and the text very easy to read. A joy.

France is the world’s style destination, and photographer Sébastien Siraudeau has scoured the hexagon to uncover eighty of its most charming boutique guesthouses, each rich in the design details that epitomize French style. Thirty of these locations are featured in individual chapters with photographs highlighting their particular flair–from a trompe-l’oeil wall mural, to a damask upholstered chaise lounge, or a simple row of ocean-polished stones. Those seeking inspiration for their own home interiors will find this book rich in ideas for a wide variety of styles—elegant crystal chandeliers may take center stage in one room, but a simple wooden bench, worn smooth with centuries of use, can be just as captivating in another. Gently faded neutrals create a quiet harmony in one setting, while another is alive with splashes of vivid color. Sleek and modern or cozy and rustic, each of these hand-picked settings is as inviting as a deep leather armchair.Organized thematically, these destinations will inspire the reader to recreate the same atmospheric interiors at home. This handsome volume includes a black book of the best design destinations the country has to offer—from châteaux, country manors, and farmhouses, to urban apartments, hotels, and B&Bs. A practical guide grouped by region includes price indicators and online tourist information.

Hotel Pastis: A Novel of Provence Review

Hotel Pastis: A Novel of Provence

"A Year in Provence" is one of my all-time favorite books. I spent a semester in Aix-en-Provence when I was in college and fell in love with the region . . . and Mr. Mayle does a wonderful job of bringing the tastes, smells, sights, and sounds of Provence into your living room. "Hotel Pastis" is his first (I believe) work of fiction set in Provence, and it does not disappoint. The story succeeds on so many levels, the characters are described so well that you expect to recognize them walking down the street. Mr. Mayle's talent is in creating these characters, and richly describing them so perfectly, without rambling on for pages on end. The prose is never boring, the story is always jam-packed and exciting, the characters always have so many different levels and layers, and they are all somehow interconnected with each other. The book is fun -- you aren't going to find anything serious or thought-provoking here -- and absolutely wonderful. "Hotel Pastis" is like vacationing in Provence -- it is an enjoyable experience, and you will find yourself re-reading it so you can re-visit with an old friend. I highly recommend it!
