Luxury Hotels Golf Resorts Review

Luxury Hotels Golf Resorts
Average Reviews:

This is one of a series of books published by teNeues that are really idea books on how the best of things are being designed right now. The hotels described here are not the normal Motel 6's in either amenities, or (I suspect) room rate. They range across the world from Europe to Asia, South Africa, and both North and South America.
Golf is featured at all of these places, but the non-golfer would not find himself out of place visiting any of them. They all have every feature you could possibly expect of a Luxury Hotel. These hotels offer a lot more than simply a place to put ones head down for the night.
The book is of large format, profusely illustrated with color photographs and printed using a very high quality printing process on very good paper. Anyone looking to design such a hotel, or even looking for a high end business entertaining location can find a lot of good inspiration in this book.

Cool Hotels Ecological (Designpockets) Review

Improved table of contents and index over other volumes in the series. However, the photos seem slightly dull in sharpness and color. Not sure if it's the printer or maybe just my copy. It's just a little annoying. The photography is still great. Nice reference for those who love to travel and stay in unique places.

Haven: Cozy Hideaways and Dream Retreats Review

Haven: Cozy Hideaways and Dream Retreats

I got this book as a gift from my wishlist here at Amazon. I was thrilled with it, not only for the fact that it's a really nice book, pretty cover, very heavy pages & beautiful photography. I wanted it mainly for decorating purposes and I did get alot of unique decorating idea's from it, but it is much more than a decorating book.. 20 different homes, vacation retreats and wilderness camps are featured.. Each one displays a gorgeous getaway spot that has been created to blend in with it's surroundings while still offering the luxury and comfort of home. Many have optioned environmentally conscious methods and offer ideas for using recycled or repurposed materials in their construction. Most of the beautiful, comfortable, romantic, scenic getaways are created to co-habitate with nature without causing further harm to it..
This is a book on the cutting edge of home design. Many of the homes and getaways shown are designed for nature enthusiasts and with popular past times in mind, such as camping, hiking, bird watching & the beach. Many different styles are represented as well, from spare minamalism to the eccentric whimsy as illustrated in an adult treehouse paradise that looks rustic on the outside but is a luxurious showplace on the inside.
Really wonderful book. An absolute gem. I don't think the description here on amazon properly conveys how useful this book is for creating homes or getaways that are environmentally friendly. I highly recommend this it to anyone concerned with the environment, even if not in the market for building a new home, there are a lot of great ideas for conservation in remodeling and just everyday living. It's also just a beautifully crafted book and makes a great conversation piece as a coffee table book. I have had sitting out for months and many friends have enjoyed it, commenting on it's beauty & unique-ness.

Grand Hotels: Reality and Illusion Review

Grand Hotels: Reality and Illusion
Average Reviews:

This book represents a good historic insight to hotels and their development in the worlds regions. As an hotel industry professional, I find the details of yesteryear a delight recorded in this well planned and illustrated volume. The book shows a slight bias toward the English tradition but as Elaine has clearly researched some of Englands older towns and cities, it is charming to see how grand the home market was. The selection of the international hotels misses many of those hotels that I would consider of the Grand genre but that gives Elaine a reason to write the next volume.

Summer by the Seaside: The Architecture of New England Coastal Resort Hotels, 1820-1950 Review

Summer by the Seaside: The Architecture of New England Coastal Resort Hotels, 1820-1950
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As an architect who grew up in a small coastal New England town that had a grand wooden hotel from the late 19th century, I appreciate Tolles' survey of what were once some very special places. Many of these buildings were significant as works of architecture, and were done by some of the best architects practicing at the time. Many were spectacular renditions of the Shingle Style, and others were done in earlier styles. They created the atmosphere of the seashore resort, and brought people to appreciate the natural beauty of the areas where they were built. It in unfortunate that so many succumbed to fire, but balloon framing (with its open vertical chases between studs) and the lack of sprinkler systems increased the risk of fire tremendously. This book, like Tolles' other books, is well-presented, with good period photographs and drawings.
